URI Elective cases need not be done while a child is acutely ill with an upper respiratory infection; the likelihood of an adverse respiratory event is increased in the perioperative period. Acute illness is: - Fever - Purulent nasal discharge - Acute pharyngitis or laryngitis - Lower respiratory symptoms If the symptoms are resolving and fever has been absent for at least two days, then surgery may proceed. |
