Pediatric Anesthesia Associates, P.C.

What is an "Anesthesia Care Team?"

Your child's anesthetic will be administered by members of Children's Anesthesia Care Team. This consists of a Pediatric Anesthesia Associates, P.C. anesthesiologist medically directing a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). A CRNA is a registered nurse with a minimum of one year experience in critical care nursing (e.g., ICU, CCU, ER) who has passed a national certification exam following graduation from an accredited teaching program where they learn specialized anesthetic management techniques. Since 1990 all such programs have been required to be at the masters degree level; furthermore, all CRNA's are required by law to achieve 40 hours of continuing medical education every two years in order to retain their license to practice. A physician will be responsible for your child's anesthetic care and will make medical decisions involved with this care. One or more members of the Anesthesia Care Team will be with your child throughout the procedure, closely monitoring the anesthetic, and will accompany your child to the recovery room where you will be delivered into the care of special Recovery Room nurses.
